Hybrid System Health Inspection

The inspection addresses heat pump operation, gas furnace operation, fuel changeover strategy, shared airflow, controls, drainage, and applicable safety conditions.

1 minute read6 short sections

Two heat sources, one coordinated system

We document the furnace, heat pump, system ages and locations, filter, and dual-fuel thermostat or controller.

We confirm that the indoor furnace and outdoor heat pump respond correctly and review the controls that determine which heat source operates.

Shared airflow and indoor equipment

We inspect the filter or electronic air cleaner, cabinet, blower motor, blower wheel, capacitor when used, control board, low-voltage wiring, indoor coil, condensate components, and visible duct connections.

Static-pressure and temperature measurements help show whether both heating modes and cooling are receiving the airflow they need.

Gas heat and combustion safety

The furnace inspection includes ignition, flame appearance, burners, flame sensor, igniter, inducer, staging, gas pressures, temperature rise, venting, accessible heat-exchanger surfaces, combustion-related warning signs, and high-efficiency furnace drainage. We check for carbon monoxide in the home and ask about current alarms.

Heat-pump, electrical, and refrigerant performance

We inspect the disconnect, electrical whip, wiring, contactor, capacitor, electrical compartment, surge protection, defrost controls, reversing valve, compressor, fan motor, outdoor coil, cabinet, and clearance.

When conditions permit, we measure amperage, refrigerant pressures, superheat, subcooling, and return-to-supply temperature differences in the appropriate modes.

Cleaning included with the inspection

Included routine care covers cleaning the burners and flame sensor, brushing and vacuuming the accessible burner compartment, clearing high-efficiency furnace condensate lines when needed, washing the outdoor coil and accessible housing, cleaning the outdoor fan blade, and cleaning and flushing the indoor drain trap. We also clean an installed electronic air cleaner and light, accessible indoor-coil buildup when practical.

Clear findings and scope

The completed report explains the condition of both heat sources, shared components, and control strategy without treating them as separate unrelated systems.

Weather or access may limit individual tests; impacted coils, blower-wheel cleaning, leak searches, repairs, and other deep cleaning are quoted separately when needed.
